How To Network Like A Pro

By Vito La Fata

Like any craft or discipline, networking has basic fundamentals that must be fully understood and lived as a part of your very being. You might think these networking fundamentals are self-evident, but go deep on them. Don't take them lightly and your networking will extend from good to great. Here are some networking fundamentals

Relationships: one of the first fundamentals to learn about networking is the importance of relationships. You need mutual relationships between yourself and your networking partners, rather than just good or adequate relationships. This takes intentional work on your part; you must actively research and seek out those people who will be excellent team members to work with.

Diversity: we are all different and networking relationships are a great place to celebrate this diversity and use it to our advantage! We all have different skills and strengths, and when we come together with those differences, we can become stronger together than we were apart. We can learn from each other and become even better.

Reciprocity: One of the foundations of strong societies is the fact that they are built upon the strong foundation of mutual giving and receiving. No society will exist for long if its members refuse to help one another and contribute to the well-being of others.

The same is true in networking. If you are in a top notch networking group, reciprocity is not just a fringe benefit; it is demanded and expected. Everyone must be willing to help out in any way that he can. In fact, a good rule of thumb to follow is to try to help more people than actually help you. This is a great way to gain a solid reputation.

Trust: This one may seem obvious, but it is so important. You must be able to trust the other members of your circle, and they must be able to trust you. If there is adequate trust within the relationships, everyone will have the opportunity to use that trust to help to grow their businesses' bottom lines.
