Buying Your Domain Name

By Joshua Nikenya

Your domain name is an essential part of your website. In fact, it's one of your site's most critical components, because it is the address people use to find and load your website into their browsers. That means it's important to have a catchy domain name that's easy to remember. (Visit my website good domain names not taken.) But too many people use the domain names that are given to them by their ISPs (Internet Service Providers). A name like that just won't help your site climb to the top and generate the highest possible profits. Instead, you need to buy or rent your own website name - one that is relevant to the products or services you offer for sale on your website.

Domain names can be registered in several ways, but it's usually fairly cheap and sometimes it's even free. Finding the right domain name for your business and budget just takes a little research.

When you are registering domain names, it's important to consider which specific names are available. For example, you may choose a name that usues the .com, .org or .net extension, but how many different extensions are available for the domain name you wish to buy? To illustrate this concept, consider the following hypothetical example: your company sells tires and you buy tiresrus.com as your domain name. In this situation, you will also want to know if tiresrus.org and tiresrus.net are available and can also be purchased and registered. If they are, you'll want to buy those domain names too. Once you do, you can have them linked to your website to bring in additional visitors.

If you already own a website and domain name, you will not need to start from scratch when you buy a different domain name. Simply choose a domain name (or more than one) that accurately reflects your website and then transfer the hosting of your existing website to a new server which will link your site to the new domain name(s) you bought. Linking your site to a new domain name isn't instantaneous - it normally needs 24 to 72 hours or so. Once it happens, though, it will be worth the time and effort because you now own a professional-sounding domain name which proves your site means business and isn't just a lark. You might need to wait a few days for the site's new domain name to propagate throughout the internet, but the wait will be well worth it.

So, step up to the plate and buy some new domain names as soon as you can. Go online, search for some domain names, and check whether the names you would like are still available. If they are, you'll be able to buy them for yourself. It is extremely easy, so there's no reason to put it off. Try it today - it will not take any time whatsoever for you to get back the minimal expense of a domain name. It may even happen the first day your website has its new domain name!
