Succeed In An Online Class: 1,2,3..

By Franklin Skribbit

As I studied through college the majority of my classes were traditional, taking place inside the classroom. However, a number of different classes were actually more convenient for me to take online over the summer as I went off to work or involve myself in internships. For me the online classes were actually a very enjoyable experience that offered me increased flexibility to learn and be tested. However, there were some key takeaways I learned in order to succeed in the classes.

1. Can you Even take the Class?

Running a professional sports team does require great coaching in order to win games but the glue that holds the entire team franchise together is accounting. Your job will be the management of the financials of the organization both internally and abroad. After your analysis you will give advice about players' salaries, promotions as well as give financial forecasts as the to the value of players for the team. You can plan on a more relaxed environment and tickets to games while at the same time successfully juggling dozens factors to make the company succeed.

Find valuable students, like minded Make friends at college. They may not have large networks but your friends and fellow students represent and investment that you can draw into later in your career. Make sure to sustain these contacts over the decades as they can prove to be very valuable. Go to special events like meet the dean

Once you are in your program there are opportunities for you to meet influential individuals. Meet the dean of the college lunches are fairly common and business leaders will come in to give presentations. Reach out to these individuals after the meeting. They will probably be in a hurry so ask if you can contact them later in the week and they may even give you their number. Attend career fairs and get to know companies

This is an opportunity for you to speak with companies directly. When you go to a career fair make sure to have a few companies in mind and seek them out first. Speak with these individuals and get to know them and their companies get contact other than the recruiter by asking for department heads in the areas you would like to work. Reach out to these individuals. There are often specific career fairs for you type of career. For example if you are seeking a Computer Programming (AAS) then you should head to a STEM fair.

Another part of scheduling is your study space. Like the timing this should be somewhere regular and hopefully secluded where you can concentrate on your work. By selecting a specific location and making it a pattern you will notice that you go through a mental shift when you enter your chosen space. Through repetition you know that this space is for studying. As mentioned, consistency is so important. Many online classes give you the option of turning in your assignments anytime throughout the course of the class. Foolish students often find themselves in a panic as they try to cram in ten chapters in two days and finish all their exams. Keep it consistent and if you have time get ahead. It will save you from developing ulcers at the end of the semester.

3. Maximize Your Resources

You will still be looking through records but your purposes will go far beyond a tax audit. You are a crime investigator searching for clues that fit together to reveal the truth. Why are forensic accountants needed? Think of Martha Steward, Bernie Madoff, Enron, etc. Your job will be to investigate tax cheaters, inside traders, embezzlers on behalf of law enforcement agencies like the FBI. In College you will actually study to obtain forensic accounting degree. The work of forensic accountant's is vital and they will often be called upon to testify in trials. In order to succeed in this field you need to be able to identify spots in records where the accounting has been forged. This can be difficult and you will become increasingly skilled with each new challenge that you take on.

Make connections at work and in internships This is the direct source. Go to work and learn at internships and jobs but make sure that you leave with more than a paycheck. Develop personal relationships with these individuals and become friends. Go to work activities afterhours. This will help them remember you as an individual instead of a position. Be memorable.
