"The Secret Circle" & How Social Network Marketing Might Have Fared

By Rob Sutter

It was a couple of weeks ago that my girlfriend introduced me to "The Secret Circle" and I responded to this show rather positively. I liked the protagonists who were presented to me and I believed that the storytelling was especially gripping for a modern television show. Sometimes I find myself losing interest in a show, so I was glad that I kept watching. Seeing as how the show never had a second season, is it possible that social network marketing could have played a part?

If you ask fans of the show why the show wasn't renewed for a second season, there are probably a number of reasons one can give. One of them may deal with costs, more specifically the ones tied to special effects. Keep in mind that with a show that focuses on magic, you have to make sure that the production values are up to par. What I believed to be strong visuals might have been a detriment to this rather intelligent show in the long run.

It's also possible that the decline in ratings were the cause of the show's cancellation. I may be a fan of the show but you have to keep in mind that not every program on television is going to have strong marketing. You may have the smartest and most engaging show but it's not going to matter much unless people aren't tuning in to watch. As a result, I don't think that it's right to place the blame on poor quality because the show could have used much more effective online marketing.

It's clear that agencies like fishbat are able to help many entities but how would they assist this show? I believe that social network marketing efforts could be increased in order for more people to be reached out to. Wouldn't an audience take to this show if it enjoyed others which involve supernatural aspects? Anyone who spends time watching the CW or SyFy would, more likely than not, be the ones who are attracted to this show and, thereby, be more inclined to watch it the entire way through.

After a show has announced its cancellation, fans are initially speculating as to why it came about. Those who watch the show but did not exactly enjoy it probably figured out why. What about those who understood the gripping aspect of the show and knew that it had a chance to reach another plateau of life? This is where I see "The Secret Circle" being situated in and I believe fans still find the announced cancellation of the show to be rather unjust because of the potential it had.
