By Troy Jones

Creating a strategy can mean the difference between you working 60 to 80 hours a week all year long and then breaking even, or worse, losing money. However, there have been a lot of successful entrepreneurs who have a strategy work fewer hours, making lots of money, and their success is usually attributed to having a strategic plan and following it.

Any ideas what a strategic business management is? In simple terms, this is the process in which the goals and objectives for your business is defined and you create a plan of action to reach them and then you follow the plan.

So, how can you create a strategic plan for your business?

First, know what your vision for your company is. What would it look like if there are no barriers and nothing stopping you from taking your company as far as you could?

Next, what are your company's core operating values? You also need to know its guiding principles. In other words, figure out why you are in business and how do you do business.

Now create a 3 to 5 year plan. Your long-term plan is based on the broad objectives that will help you get from where you are now, to where you want to be.

A plan should be developed for this year. These are the specific objectives you plan to accomplish this year that will lead you closer to your long-term goals. Being "SMART" (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-oriented) is a must when you are setting your annual goals. Include a list of the barriers that are stopping you from getting where you want to go. Figure out what resources you've already got, and what resources you need to get you past those barriers. An action plan that will clearly tell you how you will achieve your goals is what you need to create. Involve key employees with this part of the planning process.

Create a set of milestones or benchmarks. This is important because you will be able to measure to measure your progress.

Try sharing your plan with the people who will be involved in the process such as your employees. The roadmap that will ensure that everyone ends up at the same destination is your annual strategy but everyone needs the same map in order to be effective.

Put the plan into action. Once you have the roadmap, then you need to start the journey.

Check your progress. You need to check your map every now and then to be sure that you're still on the same road and the same goes for any trip. When something isn't working, you need to make the necessary adjustments and figure it out quickly in order to be back on the track.

Next year, you also need to follow the same cycle. Dreaming, planning, acting, and checking is what this involves.

Creating a business strategy and following it will ensure that you enjoy the journey as much as getting to your final destination.

It is because of this that those who are trying to make a name for themselves, or business, have to target places like Facebook to gain some popularity and Facebook fans. This can be achieved in a variety of ways.

Facebook is free to use and has millions of users all over the world. Start out by creating a profile page for yourself. Quickly add a few friends, preferably people you know. Then create a fan-page for yourself which you will use to advertise your talents or products. All your friends will be informed of this so already you will have some Facebook fans without even trying. Send a reminder message to your list just in case they have not logged in recently.

The most important thing to include in your page is good quality information, and images. A page without pictures will not get many fans so include as many as possible. Stars on Social Media platforms

By Nicholas Sorrentino

Stars having seemingly become an integral part of the social media world. This makes sense for a lot of celebrities, because it increases their reach and allows them to stay on the mind of their fans. Recently this connection has been put to use to benefit charities and for the completion of other good deeds. In other cases though, the foray into social media has not helped the protagonists as much.

Athletes seem to have a particular penchant for misusing social media. There are a large number of players who have gotten into trouble with their sports teams from things that they tweeted. Just a few days ago a Major League Baseball player was sent down to the minors for things that he tweeted. In the past Chad Ochocinco, now of the New England Patriots, has gotten in trouble several times for things he tweeted. His one-time teammate Terrell Owens has run into his own problems.

Some celebrities and politicians have made their own missteps. There was a lot of controversy over some of the tweets that stars made over the Japanese earthquake tragedy particularly of 50 Cent's comments. 50 Cent stood strong and refused to take down his tweets or to apologize for them. Later tweeting "Some of my tweets are ignorant I do it for shock value. Hate it or love it. I'm cool either way." Kenneth Cole ran into his own problems after tweeting that the uproar in Egypt was probably due to their knowledge of his new collection.

After minor setbacks both of those celebs seems to have been able to get back on top. On the other hand, the politician Anthony Weiner seems to have permanently killed his career after mistakenly tweeting a picture of himself in his underwear. Compounding his problems, rather than immediately confessing or denying that it was he who posted the images, he created a media circus by drawing into question whether the image was of him. Later on there of course proved to be a trail of evidence linking him with a number of different girls.

The moral of the story is not to underestimate the power and influence of social media; people are going to see what you write. So you better think about how you're comments are going to be perceived. Your own personal social media accounts may be the only place you can make comments without having them taken out of context or repeated with a bias. If you wont take steps to maintain your reputation, no one else will.

Using Social Media For Internet Advertising

By Takara Alexis

We aren't talking about buying ads on Facebook here, even though that's a great idea too. One of the best parts about social media is that it is a free way to reach a large number of interested, engaged customers and tell them all about the great products and services that you have to offer.

First off, let's talk about why social media is so great for internet advertising. The main advantage that social media has over other forms of communication-such as, say, television advertisements-is that you can be sure that the people you are talking to are actually interested in your products. They decide to follow you, so you know they want what it is that you're selling.

Secondly, social media offers real time metrics that will tell you how many people you are talking to, where they are located, and what they're saying about you. When you once had to shell out for an expensive market research agency, you can now figure out everything that you need to know with a few clicks on your keyboard.

Social media is a practical godsend for internet advertising, and its applications are pretty much limitless. So, let's go through the most popular social media applications and discuss what would be the best ways to use them in order to make sure that you're doing the best you can to hype your products.

Facebook: Facebook works best as a fan page with information that has some staying power. So, if you have a sale or a contest that is going to last for a few weeks, you should tell your friends online all about it. If you have information or some pictures, this is a great place for it too. Facebook is also great for creating a community of fans that can talk to each other about your products. This way you can have your fans advertise for you!

Twitter: Whereas Facebook tends to hang out for a bit, Twitter updates come and go pretty quickly. If you have more timely information, or perhaps a one day sale, Twitter is the best place for you.

YouTube: If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million. If you do not have a YouTube channel, I would suggest starting one. YouTube is a great way in order to really make a connection with your customers.

5 Successful Social Media Campaigns

By Takara Alexis

Social media is still relatively new so marketers are still figuring out how to use it effectively. Here are a few campaigns who used social media properly and saw excellent results.

1. The Gap- Popular clothing retailer The Gap teamed up with online coupon dealer Groupon and offered $50 worth of clothes for just $25. 441,000 of these coupons were sold which generated $11 million in revenue for The Gap. Not bad for a promotion lasting one day. This campaign helped The Gap gain new customers that they may have never reached otherwise. The Gap hopes that these customers stay with them and don't shop at The Gap only when there are deals.

2. Mountain Dew- Mountain Dew ran a successful social media campaign based around the concept of DEWmocracy. Mountain Dew released three new flavors to the public and customers were then able to vote on which flavor they liked the best. The winning flavor would then be sold full time and the others would be canned. This campaign worked because it got customers involved and made them feel like they had a voice in the future of the Mountain Dew brand. This social media campaign generated buzz, which is always a good thing. The only downside is people whose flavors lost may feel betrayed by the company.

3. Old Spice- If you say "the Old Spice guy" to someone they immediately know who you are talking about. This shows how well Old Spice executed their campaign based around ridiculous commercials bending the laws of reality and pushing male bravado to a new level. Old Spice took to social media and had the Old Spice guy answers questions sent in by fans in a series of YouTube videos that generated a lot of views and created a buzz for Old Spice. Their sales haven't yet shown it, but Old Spice is growing as a brand name.

4. The Arcade Fire- Grammy-winning band the Arcade Fire used social media in an interesting way to generate hype for their album The Suburbs. They created an "interactive music video" that asked users for their address and then local landmarks were used as Arcade Fire's song "We Used to Wait" played. The experience was surreal as you saw a music video, but you could recognize all of the places in it. This innovative experience spread across the internet and gained Arcade Fire fans who had previously never heard of them.

5. The Blair Witch Project- Although much older than the other campaigns on this list there is no doubt it was an effective one. Before the release of the movie fake police reports and newspaper clippings were posted online about the teens that were supposedly taken by the "Blair Witch". This excited moviegoers as they felt they were experiencing a movie that was truly real. The success of this campaign can still be seen today as some people still mistakenly think the Blair Witch Project is actual footage of actual teens.
